Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today announced he secured another $15.3 million in federal funding for mid-Michigan as the House of Representatives passed legislation (H.R. 7148) to fund the government. This bipartisan spending package, which President Donald Trump signed into law this afternoon, included funding for the Departments of Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and others.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today honored the victims of the tragic mid-air crash that took place exactly one year ago between an American Airlines jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Washington, D.C. On the anniversary, Barrett released a video he recorded last week remembering the 67 lives lost and announced two new bills to upgrade collision avoidance technology in military and civilian aircraft to help prevent future tragedies.

One year ago today, our nation was shaken by a devastating plane crash over the Potomac River between an American Airlines passenger jet and an Army Black Hawk helicopter. 67 lives were lost in the tragedy, which exposed glaring gaps in aviation safety. After years of piloting helicopters in the Army, I took the crash as a personal call to action.
