Each spring, members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school arts competition. The Congressional Art Competition is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in our congressional district. This contest is open to high school students only. The 2026 Congressional Art Competition has begun. You can check out the full competition rules and fill out the printable entry and release form. Submissions are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24. Each participating member of the House of Representatives accepts submissions from his or her congressional district. Congressman Barrett represents Michigan's 7th Congressional District, which includes all of Clinton, Ingham, Livingston, and Shiawassee counties, most of Eaton County, and parts of Oakland and Genesee counties. (If you are unsure who your member of Congress is, click here to find that information online.) The over-all winner of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from other contest winners nationwide. Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26” × 26” × 4”, including the frame, and must not weigh more than 15 pounds. Artwork may be: - Paintings - including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
- Drawings - including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
- Collage
- Prints - including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
- Mixed media
- Computer-generated art
- Photography
