Our District
Congressman Tom Barrett represents approximately 800,000 people who live in the 7th Congressional District in the heart of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Near the center of the district lies Lansing, Michigan’s capital city, surrounded by many other Pure Michigan communities: cities like Charlotte, Howell, Owosso, and St. Johns; smaller towns like Durand, Fowlerville, Olivet, and Stockbridge; and lots of rural communities in between. In total, the 7th District contains all of Cinton, Ingham, Livingston, and Shiawassee counties; most of Eaton County; and parts of Genesee and Oakland counties.
Mid-Michigan's workforce powers our local communities and global markets through their dedication and expertise. Skilled manufacturing workers build vehicles for drivers across the continent. Farmers raise crops and livestock to feed families in our community and around the globe. Civil servants in Michigan’s government work for the people of our entire state. Educators at Michigan State University, other colleges, and our local K-12 schools help prepare the next generation for success. Countless other workers provide essential goods and services for their neighbors. There is no doubt that our region’s economic engine runs on the time, talents, and hard work of the devoted people who call mid-Michigan home.
