In 2024 alone, adults aged 60 and older lost $2.4 billion to fraud.
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) and Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) introduced the One Front Door for Elder Fraud Act to establish a 24/7 hotline and website to serve as a one-stop shop for reporting scams and fraud targeting seniors. The platform would help law enforcement catch and prosecute criminals while offering seniors resources to protect themselves from potential scams.
The rapid development of AI technology, which has potential to improve our society, has exposed the serious dangers that can come with it. We are already seeing it replace American jobs, threaten our national security, and degrade human dignity.
These risks cannot be ignored, so it’s time to create a seat at the table for someone to monitor AI technology, ensure strong guardrails are in place, and prepare us for this new era of technological innovation and beyond.
