Washington, D.C. — Congressmen Tom Barrett (MI-07) and John McGuire (VA-05) today introduced the American Dream Act to help more individuals and families afford their first home. Specifically, the bill would incentivize older Americans to sell their homes by expanding the waiver of capital gains taxes on a sale to a first-time homebuyer.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today introduced the Home Affordability for Guard and Reserve Act (H.R. 7009) to help make it more affordable for members of the National Guard and Armed Forces Reserve to buy a home. This legislation would lower the out-of-pocket cost of purchasing a home by expanding eligibility for VA home loans, which are offered to service members, veterans, and surviving spouses at a competitive interest rate with no down payment required.

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) joined House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil in introducing the Stop Insider Trading Act. This legislation bans each member of Congress, his or her spouse, and his or her dependent children from purchasing publicly traded, individual stocks.

In case you missed it, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) wrote an op-ed in the Washington Examiner today about the new law he successfully spearheaded in response to the mid-air crash over D.C. last January. A retired Army helicopter pilot who logged more than 1,000 flight hours, Barrett authored the Military Helicopter Training Safety Act, which begins the process of equipping military helicopters with anti-crash technology.
