Barrett Announces 2026 Congressional Art Competition

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Barrett (MI-07) today invited students from Michigan’s 7th Congressional District to participate in the Spring 2026 Congressional Art Competition. This annual competition offers high school students from across the country the opportunity to highlight their creativity and artistic skills.

The first-place artwork from this year’s competition will be displayed for a year in the U.S. Capitol along with other winning pieces from across the country. The winning student will also have the opportunity to travel to our nation’s capital for a reception with other winners. Runners-up may have their art displayed in Congressman Barrett’s Lansing or D.C. offices.

Artwork entered in the contest may be up to 26” × 26” × 4”, including the frame, and must not weigh more than 15 pounds. Accepted mediums include:

  • Paintings — including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings — including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collage
  • Prints — including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed media
  • Computer-generated art
  • Photography
