Specifically, the bill would incentivize older Americans to sell their homes by expanding the waiver of capital gains taxes on a sale to a first-time homebuyer.

This legislation bans each member of Congress, his or her spouse, and his or her dependent children from purchasing publicly traded, individual stocks.

In case you missed it, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) wrote an op-ed in the Washington Examiner today about the new law he successfully spearheaded in response to the mid-air crash over D.C. last January. A retired Army helicopter pilot who logged more than 1,000 flight hours, Barrett authored the Military Helicopter Training Safety Act, which begins the process of equipping military helicopters with anti-crash technology.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today voted no on H.R. 1834, a bill that would extend COVID-era subsidies for big insurance companies who are raking in record profits while continuing to hike rates and deny record levels of claims. This legislation also didn’t offer any reforms to mitigate the rampant fraud, waste, and abuse in the program.
