Delivering for Mid-Michigan Farmers
Mid-Michigan farmers work too hard to be constantly left guessing. For years, Washington kicked the Farm Bill down the road, and our producers paid the price with uncertainty and short-term patches instead of the long-term stability they deserve. That’s why I proudly voted to pass the Farm, Food, and National Security Act — the first full Farm Bill since 2018. This bill locks in key agricultural programs through 2031 and makes real investments in the people who feed our nation and the world.
Specifically, here's what this bill means for mid-Michigan farmers and rural communities:
- Expanded access to crop insurance and a more reliable farm safety net.
- Better access to credit and risk management so farmers can invest and grow.
- Increased integrity and transparency in food labeling to prioritize public health.
- More support for domestically grown specialty crops like fruits and vegetables that encourage healthy food habits.
- Doubled funding for export promotion to tackle the agriculture trade deficit.
- Streamlined conservation programs and forest management.
- Protections for livestock producers and regulatory certainty for crop protection tools.
- Safeguards against foreign ownership of American farmland.
- Modernized rural development, research, and energy programs.
This sweeping legislation builds on the Farm Bill provisions we already secured in the Working Families Tax Cuts last summer — and now it's time to finish the job. The Senate needs to act and get this bill to the president's desk. Mid-Michigan's farmers have waited long enough. They deserve a Farm Bill that works as hard as they do.
