This week, the House put politics aside and came together to pass 9 bipartisan bills that take meaningful steps towards improving the lives of our nation’s heroes. I believe Washington has a duty to serve those who served with the same dedication they showed our country.

Washington, D.C. — In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07), Chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, introduced three pieces of legislation to improve the delivery, efficiency, and integrity of veterans’ services. Specifically, these bills are designed to bring the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) into the 21st century by enhancing digital communication, combating fraud, and streamlining community care scheduling.

Washington, D.C. — Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R. 1364, the Automotive Support Services to Improve Safe Transportation (ASSIST) Act. This bipartisan legislation introduced by Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) and Congresswoman Maggie Goodlander (NH-02) would help disabled veterans make the vehicle modifications they need to travel safely by giving the VA greater flexibility to offer financial assistance for a wider range of necessary adaptations.

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today announces the reopening of the Social Security Administration (SSA) field office in Owosso, Michigan, following a months-long closure that left residents of Shiawassee County without access to critical benefits and services. 

The office officially reopened its doors to the public today, Wednesday, May 14 with regular hours of Monday-Friday 9:00AM-4:00PM.
