Barrett Votes To Further Strengthen and Support U.S. Coast Guard Following Historic Investments in One Big Beautiful Bill
House of Representatives Passes Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025
Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 with the backing of Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) to support the U.S. Coast Guard, its members, and their families. This bipartisan legislation will protect historic investments the One Big Beautiful Bill made in our Coast Guard, strengthen America’s shipbuilding capacity, create parity with other armed services, and secure the nation’s coastal borders.
“Our Coast Guard must have the resources they need to protect our maritime borders, stop the flow of illegal drugs and migrants from pouring into our country, and conduct critical search and rescue missions. This is especially important here in Michigan, where they protect thousands of miles of our coastline in and around the Great Lakes,” Barrett said. “This bipartisan legislation supports our Coasties and their mission to strengthen our national security, builds on the historic investments we made with the One Big Beautiful Bill, and will make our country more secure. I was proud to vote yes.”
The Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2025 provides funding for the service through Fiscal Year 2029. These authorizations will support Coast Guard operations and the continued recapitalization of its historically underfunded cutter fleet, aviation assets, shoreside facilities, and IT capabilities. The bill also modernizes the Coast Guard’s acquisition process, increases transparency and accountability in the service’s recapitalization efforts, and opens a pathway to the adoption of next-generation autonomous technologies.
NOTE: House passage of the Coast Guard Authorization Act comes just weeks after Barrett helped pass a historic $24.6 billion investment in the Coast Guard as part of the One Big Beautiful Bill. This funding will support the Coast Guard’s work in protecting our borders, including in the Great Lakes.
