Congressman Tom Barrett Named to Influential House Committees, Tapped as Subcommittee Chairman
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) has been selected to serve on the influential House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs for the 119th Congress. Additionally, Barrett has been named Chairman of the Subcommittee on Technology Modernization within the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, where he will oversee efforts to improve the Department of Veterans Affairs' technology infrastructure and modernization initiatives.
"It is an honor to serve on these important committees in the House of Representatives where I will have the unique opportunity to improve Michigan’s infrastructure and advocate for our veterans," said Barrett. "As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Technology Modernization, I am committed to delivering for those who served our country and doing everything in my power to ensure the VA’s systems produce only the highest standard of care. I’m grateful to Chairman Bost and Chairman Graves for the opportunity and look forward to getting to work."
The House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure plays a crucial role in shaping policies related to transportation, highways, railroads, aviation, and water resources. As a member, Barrett will be a strong advocate for modernizing Michigan’s roads, bridges, and transit systems while ensuring that federal investments support economic growth and job creation in the state. Additionally, he will work to enhance and expand operations at Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport, ensuring it remains a key hub for commerce, travel, and economic development in mid-Michigan.
“I’m excited to add a fellow pilot to the committee in Congressman Barrett, and we will draw on the expertise he developed as Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman in the Michigan Senate,” said Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO). “ He will bring to the table valuable real-world experience as we work this Congress to build America’s infrastructure, improve the efficiency of our transportation systems, and ensure that taxpayer dollars dedicated to improving infrastructure are used wisely.”
The House Committee on Veterans' Affairs is responsible for legislative oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs and policies affecting America’s veterans. Barrett, a 22 year U.S. Army veteran, has been a steadfast advocate for ensuring veterans receive the care, support, and benefits they have earned.
“Veterans in Michigan and across the country are lucky to have my fellow veteran and colleague, Rep. Tom Barrett, fighting for opportunity for them on the VA Committee,” said Chairman Mike Bost (R-IL). “Tom knows what it means to serve and brings a wealth of knowledge to the Committee from his over 20 years in the Army, to his service in the state legislature, he knows firsthand the issues veterans and their families face. I have no doubt that Tom will lead our Subcommittee on Technology Modernization in the right direction to propel VA into the modern, fiscally responsible, and quick delivery of care and benefits today and tomorrow’s veterans have earned.”
