Barrett Touts American Energy Dominance, One Big Beautiful Bill at Stockbridge Oil Storage Facility
Stockbridge, Mich. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) on Wednesday met with workers and leaders in Michigan’s energy industry who voiced support for the One Big Beautiful Bill’s steps to spur domestic energy production, unleash American energy dominance, and provide reliable, affordable power for Michigan residents.
Barrett also toured Enbridge’s Stockbridge Terminal — an oil storage facility — after hosting a roundtable conversation with leaders from Enbridge, the American Petroleum Institute, and other energy organizations.
“Unleashing American energy will make paying the electric bill and filling up the gas tank more affordable for mid-Michigan families,” Barrett said. “That’s exactly what the One Big Beautiful Bill delivers by rolling back red tape and ending taxpayer-funded favors for special interests. We’re finally restoring American energy dominance and opening up the free market to encourage more competition, innovation, and energy production here at home. From lowering energy prices to eliminating tax on overtime for hard workers in the energy sector, the One Big Beautiful Bill is all about lowering costs for working families.”
Stockbridge Terminal has nine above-ground crude oil storage tanks, which store oil arriving via Line 78 from Griffith, Indiana, before transporting it out through Line 78 to Sarnio, Ontario, Line 17 to Toledo, Ohio, and Line 79 to Detroit. Enbridge employs 15 Michigan workers at the facility.
The congressman and industry leaders discussed further policy proposals to build on the wins of the One Big Beautiful Bill, cut more red tape, and provide long-term certainty for the energy industry with long-overdue permitting reform.
“Permitting reform is a key pillar of achieving American energy dominance,” said Chris Zeigler of the American Petroleum Institute, who spoke at the roundtable. “Without efficient, predictable permitting processes, America can’t meet its growing energy needs. Advancing critical infrastructure projects like the Line 5 Great Lakes Tunnel, which is essential to meeting Michigan’s energy needs, bolsters U.S. energy security and reliability.”

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which Barrett helped pass and was signed into law by President Donald Trump in July, boosts American energy production by authorizing new oil and gas leases and undoing red tape imposed during the Biden administration. The historic law removes subsidies and carveouts for special interests, providing a level playing field to allow companies producing oil, natural gas, wind, solar, nuclear, or other energy sources to compete, innovate, and provide more efficient, more affordable energy.
Barrett has long been a leading advocate for cutting unnecessary red tape to encourage all kinds of energy production and reduce energy costs for Michigan families. This year, he co-sponsored the Energy Choice Act to prevent state and local politicians from banning natural gas, hydrogen, and other fuels. He is also a co-sponsor of the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act to ensure a fair, objective process for approving liquid natural gas projects.
