Barrett Joins Bipartisan Group Urging Senate Leaders To Work with House To Lower Health Care Costs in America
Washington, D.C. — Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives urging U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to include them and their colleagues in critical discussions around lowering the cost of health care in America.
“We kindly request that you include both House Democrats and Republicans in the legislative process leading to the promised health care reform vote in December. If we work together, our hope is that the bill will not only achieve a sixty-vote majority in the Senate, but will also then move to the House for immediate consideration and passage,” the lawmakers wrote. “Bipartisan engagement across both chambers will be essential to crafting a health care proposal that can pass and be signed into law.”
In an agreement with Senate Democrats who ended the filibuster and helped pass legislation to end the government shutdown, Majority Leader Thune committed to holding a vote on legislation aimed at combating rising health care costs and addressing the Affordable Care Act tax credits, which Democrats scheduled to expire at the end of this year.
