Barrett Joins Army Secretary, Michigan Delegation For Northern Strike Military Training at Camp Grayling
Grayling, Mich. — On Friday, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07), U.S. Secretary of the Army Daniel P. Driscoll, Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Congressmen Jack Bergman (MI-01) and John Moolenaar (MI-02), and other officials at Camp Grayling for Exercise Northern Strike, the annual military training conducted in Northern Michigan.
“Michigan plays a leading role in preparing our next generation of military leaders, and Northern Strike’s combat training operations ensure our armed forces remain mission-ready to defend our nation,” Barrett said. “After years of participating in these exercises myself, it was special to see the operation from the other side along with Secretary Driscoll and my colleagues in Congress. Michigan’s strategic military bases and the critical training we provide are critical to our national security and will continue to play a leading role in maintaining peace through strength.”
This year’s Exercise Northern Strike brought together more than 7,500 participants from the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, reserves, National Guard, and international allies. Camp Grayling and other Michigan sites comprise the National All-Domain Warfaring Center where the exercise takes place. Over a two-week period, the armed forces conduct combat training operations in the land, sea, air, space, and cyber domains.
While strengthening national security, Exercise Northern Strike also supports Michigan’s economy, bringing an average of $38 million to the state each year.
