Barrett Hosts Successful Interactive Town Hall With 5,300 Participants Across Mid-Michigan

April 7, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Tonight, Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) hosted a successful interactive town hall with more than 5,300 constituents from across Michigan’s 7th Congressional District. During the hour-long call, Barrett provided an update on his recent work in the House of Representatives, including the passage of his first bill in Congress, welcoming VA Secretary Doug Collins to Michigan, and helping negotiate the safe release of Paul and Christy Akeo from prison in Mexico.

“I appreciate the more than 5,300 constituents from across the district who took time out of their night to have a thoughtful conversation about the issues we are facing in Michigan and across the country,” said Barrett. “I remain committed to finding meaningful and productive ways to engage every person I represent in Congress, and tackle the tough conversations head on, as I work hard to deliver the results for the people of mid-Michigan.”

Barrett also answered questions directly from constituents on a variety of topics, including the impact of tariffs on the economy, protecting the integrity of federal elections, and recent leaks from the Department of Defense.

BACKGROUND:

Since taking office in January, Barrett has traveled to every county in Michigan’s 7th District multiple times in a sincere effort to meet with constituents from all walks of life. He has visited small businesses, schools, hospitals, non-profits, military units, veterans groups, and local governments. His office has also responded to more than 30,000 phone calls, letters, and emails while meeting with dozens of people from mid-Michigan every single week. In March, he hosted an interactive town hall with nearly 2,000 constituents. Despite organized agitators trying to disrupt and plunge public events across the country into chaos, he will continue looking for meaningful ways to engage everyone in the community, even those who disagree.
