The Congressional App Challenge (CAC) is a national competition encouraging student participation in computer science and coding. Congressman Barrett’s office is delighted to be hosting this annual competition each fall for middle and high school students (grades 6-12) throughout mid-Michigan. Applications are now open for the Fall 2026 App Challenge. The deadline to apply is Monday, October 26, at noon. Click here to register. Officially launched by the U.S. House of Representatives through House Resolution 77 in 2015, the growth of competition has since inspired over 40,000 students across all 50 states to participate in the Congressional App Challenge. Each participating member of the House of Representatives accepts submissions from his or her congressional district. Congressman Barrett represents Michigan's 7th Congressional District, which includes all of Clinton, Ingham, Livingston, and Shiawassee counties, most of Eaton County, and parts of Genesee and Oakland counties. Students are encouraged to register as individuals or as teams of up to four; at least half of the team must be eligible to compete in Michigan's 7th Congressional District. The winning app from the district will be eligible to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year and winner(s) will be invited to the #HouseOfCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C.
