This bill prevented the largest tax hike in American history, lowered energy costs, and permanently secured our border — all while protecting the integrity of Medicaid and SNAP for those who need them most. This legislation will also help create thousands of good-paying jobs to boost our economy, ensure the middle class keeps more money in their pockets, and invest in a brighter future for America.

Michigan workers and small businesses were on track to see their taxes skyrocket in 2026. Thankfully, the One Big Beautiful Bill prevented this tax hike and lowered taxes even further. Thanks to this bill, the average Michigan family of four will see their take-home pay increase by as much as $9,900!
- Eliminates taxes on tips and overtime.
- Lowers taxes on seniors by allowing Social Security beneficiaries to deduct $6,000 on their taxes.
- Permanently increases the Child Tax Credit to $2,200.
- Makes interest payments on American-made vehicles tax-deductible up to $10,000.
- Preserves the doubling of the standard deduction, guaranteeing single and married filers can deduct $15,300 and $30,600 respectively.
- Increases take-home pay for the average family of four by up to $9,900.
- Supports 46,290 small businesses in Michigan by preserving tax credits that promote growth and reinvestment.
- Protects 4,303 family farms in Michigan by preventing the death tax exemption from being slashed in half.
- Makes permanent the Opportunity Zone tax structure, encouraging further investment in underserved communities and supporting 288 Opportunity Zones in Michigan.

- Increases the annual Child Tax Credit to $2,200 per child to help families buy food, clothes, school supplies, and other essentials.
- Strengthens the Adoption Tax Credit to help families welcoming children into their loving homes.
- Creates new tax-friendly savings accounts to help parents save for their children’s futures.
- Supports low-income students by strengthening Pell Grants and addressing budget shortfalls.
Assisting Vulnerable Michiganders
Strengthening Medicaid and Food Assistance for People in Need
Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) help mid-Michigan families pay for essential health care and groceries. These programs exist to aid people with disabilities, expecting mothers, children, and seniors. Unfortunately, unchecked waste, fraud, and abuse in these programs have taken away vital resources for those who need it most. In order to save and strengthen Medicaid and food assistance for vulnerable Michiganders, we need to crack down on waste and implement common-sense safeguards.
- Removes ineligible recipients, including illegal immigrants.
- Incentivizes states to reduce erroneous SNAP payments.
- Provides historic resources for rural hospitals, which operate on tighter margins.
- Requires able-bodied adults, if they don’t have children under 14, to work, volunteer in the community, or study at least 80 hours a month if they receive Medicaid or food assistance.
The vast majority of Americans support work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving public assistance. The One Big Beautiful Bill recognizes the dignity of work and encourages those who are able to get a good job or serve the community. By implementing modest work requirements and cracking down on fraud and waste, the bill will ensure Medicaid and food assistance remain strong lifelines for Michiganders who need help.
Making Historic Investments in National Security
Securing America’s Borders and Strengthening Our Military
The One Big Beautiful Bill will make our nation more secure and our communities safer. We’re rebuilding the military to maintain peace through strength. Additionally, by securing the border and investing in immigration enforcement, we’re supporting people who come to America the right way — with respect for our laws.
- Funds the Golden Dome to strengthen America’s ability to intercept attacks.
- Hires 10,000 new ICE agents, 5,000 new customs officers, and 3,000 new Border Patrol agents.
- Builds 701 miles of wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
- Equips border patrol agents with next-generation surveillance technology.
- Invests $24.6 billion in the Coast Guard, including advancements for ships, planes, icebreakers, and facilities.
- Invests in shipbuilding and expanding the Navy’s capabilities with Maritime Industrial Base Investments in surface and subsurface vessels, including autonomous systems.
- Improves quality of life for our servicemembers, including health care, childcare, housing, and education.
- Prioritizes military readiness and ensures the U.S. armed forces have the resources to remain a prepared, capable, and lethal fighting force.
- Protects children from exploitation by requiring fingerprint collection and DNA tests to verify child-sponsor relationships and crack down on criminals who exploit vulnerable young people.

Supporting Industry and Unleashing American Energy To Drive Economic Growth
The One Big Beautiful Bill will grow Michigan’s economy and encourage job creation by unleashing affordable energy production, attracting investment in our state’s workforce, and lowering costs. This is a huge boost to our community, especially the 35,000 workers at auto plants and other manufacturers.. In mid-Michigan alone, the law protects 12,000 manufacturing jobs, $1 billion in wages for Michigan workers, and $2.1 billion in economic growth.
